Photography of the odd & extreme If I didn't get wet I didn't get the shot and if the sun hasn't come up yet then I left too early. There's one thing about living in the prairies, it's tough to find a good shot. If one were exclusively into flowers, fields and sunsets then this place would be a goldmine. Unfortunately I've shot my share of typical sunset wheat fields and got nothing out of it. For me getting a shot that's different and exciting often means going to great lenths to make it happen, or alternatively, taking something very ordinary and trying to spin a different view to it. When the shooting session is done I've either stood in a freezing lake/river, stayed out all night - or on occasion have done both trying to get just the right angle for aurora shots over a lake. The images you will see are the products of: many cold nights standing in windy fields waiting for the clouds to blow over to capture Auroras and starscapes, many kilometers of driving to chase after lightning storms, getting soaked after standing in lakes taking bird and aurora shots, braving the typical -30c prairie weather for winter landscapes. Making exciting images means journeying past the familiar and bland front doorstep and exploring the unknown.

Most images listed in the gallery are for sale by inquiry. Large format high quality Giclee prints on paper or canvas are treated with high grade UV protective matte photo laminate. Canvases come stretched on wooden supports and are ready to hang. Paper prints can be foamcored and framed without glass. Alternatively, they can also be plaqumounted (blockmounted) in one of 4 styles with a selection of 48 edge colours.

I woke up this morning breathing, and evil space vegetation hasn't tried to clone me yet. This is a good thing.

Graduated from the University of Manitoba, School of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Art Honours degree. Majored in drawing/mixed media. Where the mixed media part took me was painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, Poloroid photography, lots of coffee grounds and autobody putty.

Artistic influences are anyone pre-modern - Greek & Roman sculpture, Rembrandt, Rubens, Goya, and of late John Singer Sargent - and old style photography. Additional influences are old Star Trek shows, vampire movies/legends, pirate movies, Spiderman & Batman, H.R. Geiger, Gladiator, the History Channel (WW1 & 2, Roman history), superstition/witchcraft/mythic lore and alchemy/religious theory & icons - Ok, so I might be a little messed up - but as long as no one finds the bodies everyone can just continue to assume I'm normal & well-adjusted.

For the past few years my work has been pretty much computer-based and seeing what I can get out of the technology. Mainly influenced, you could say, by the jobs I've found myself in - Web Designer for 5+ years and Digital Photo Restorer for 5 years. That's a whole mess of Photoshop time - and I can use it better than I can drive my car. In the last few years, software and computer speed have really come together to enable it to be a creative tool. It's a comfortable, clean and relaxing medium to work on. It's surprising, but if you approach the computer with the same ideas and techniques you would paper or canvas you can get the close to the same organic effects that you do with traditional tools.

In the last 4 years I've also managed to fall into digital SLR photography - something I tried to do in school but being a drawing major I was bottom rung to the photography and graphic design majors 2 years in a row. Without formal photography training, I just grabbed every book I could find, surfed every site and applied my art skills. As I see it, taking a picture is pretty much the same as creating one by hand. In each picture I take, I see more and more of my painting and drawing sensibilities coming out - and some of the best photos I've taken I've found to be more painterly than photographic in technique, aesthetics and mood.
